Instructions
1. Cut the Potatoes
Start by peeling the potatoes and removing any rounded edges, creating rectangular blocks for even cooking. Next, slice these blocks into batons that are between the thickness of fries and thick chips. Aim for about 1-2 cm wide—if they're too thin, they may break during cooking; if too thick, they won’t cook through properly. You can save any potato offcuts for making mashed potatoes or adding to soups for extra flavor.
2. Rinse and Dry
Once cut, rinse the chips under cold water to remove excess starch, which helps achieve crispiness. After rinsing, pat them dry thoroughly with a clean tea towel to remove moisture.
Cooking the Chips
3. Toss with Oil
Place the chips in the bottom of the air fryer (specifically the part with the paddle). Drizzle the sunflower or olive oil over the chips and toss them well to ensure they are evenly coated. This will help them crisp up during cooking.
4. Air Fry
Set the air fryer to cook for 30 minutes using the paddle feature. After this time, open the fryer and check if the chips are tender and cooked through. If they’re still firm or not golden, continue cooking for an additional 5 minutes.
5. Season and Serve
Once the chips are ready, season them generously with salt. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor. Enjoy your healthier, crispy air-fried chips!
