Create these simple pinwheels packed with cheddar, Marmite, and spinach flavors—perfect for pairing with soup or enjoying on a family picnic. For added convenience, you can freeze them before baking!
Ingredients
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Oven
- Preheat your oven to 200°C/180°C fan/gas 6. This ensures the pinwheels cook evenly.
Step 2: Spread the Marmite
- Unroll the ready-rolled puff pastry on a clean surface with the longer side facing you.
- Use a butter knife or spatula to spread 1 tablespoon of Marmite evenly across the entire surface of the pastry.
Step 3: Add Spinach and Cheese
- Take 2-3 large handfuls of fresh spinach and tear them into smaller pieces. Scatter the spinach evenly over the Marmite layer.
- Grate 80g of cheddar cheese (or use pre-grated cheese) and sprinkle it evenly on top of the spinach.
Step 4: Roll the Pastry
- Starting from the longer edge of the pastry, tightly roll it away from you, creating a long sausage shape. Keep the roll as tight as possible for even cooking.
Step 5: Slice the Pinwheels
- Use a sharp knife to cut the rolled pastry into 12 equal pieces. Aim for slices about 2-3 cm thick.
Step 6: Arrange on Baking Trays
- Line two baking trays with baking parchment.
- Place the pinwheels on the trays, spiral side up, and gently press down on each one with your hand to flatten slightly.
Step 7: Freeze (Optional)
- If you want to prepare these in advance, cover the baking trays with plastic wrap and place them in the freezer. This way, you can bake them later straight from frozen.
Step 8: Bake
- Place the trays in the preheated oven.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes if fresh or 25 minutes if frozen, until the pinwheels are puffed up and golden brown. Keep an eye on them towards the end to avoid burning.
Step 9: Serve
- Once baked, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with soup or as a snack!
