Step 1: Preheat the Air Fryer
Begin by preheating your air fryer to 200°C (392°F). This step is crucial for achieving crispy French fries. Allow the air fryer to run for about 3-5 minutes to reach the desired temperature.
Step 2: Load the Fries
Once the air fryer is preheated, carefully add 450g of frozen French fries to the basket. For the best results, make sure the fries are in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding the basket, as this can lead to uneven cooking.
Step 3: First Cooking Phase
Cook the fries for 5 minutes without shaking them. This initial phase allows them to start crisping up.
Step 4: Toss for Even Cooking
After the first 5 minutes, carefully remove the basket (it will be hot!) and give the fries a good toss. This ensures that all sides are exposed to the hot air for even cooking. Be gentle to avoid breaking the fries.
Step 5: Second Cooking Phase
Return the basket to the air fryer and cook for an additional 5 minutes. This will help the fries develop a nice golden color.
Step 6: Final Toss and Cooking
Once the second cooking period is done, remove the basket again and toss the fries one more time. This final toss is essential for achieving maximum crispiness. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes. Keep an eye on them during this time; the goal is to have them golden brown and crispy, but avoid overcooking.
Step 7: Check for Doneness
Check the fries periodically, especially in the last few minutes of cooking. If they are not as crispy as you’d like, you can add a couple more minutes of cooking time. The internal temperature should be around 74°C (165°F) for safe consumption.
Step 8: Season and Serve
Once the fries are cooked to your liking, carefully remove them from the basket using tongs or a slotted spoon. Season with salt or your preferred seasoning blend while they're still hot, as this helps the seasoning stick better. Serve immediately with an assortment of your favorite dipping sauces, such as ketchup, mayonnaise, or aioli, for a delightful snack or side dish.
Additional Tips:
- Experiment with Seasonings: Try adding garlic powder, paprika, or herbs for extra flavor.
- Cooking Time Variations: Keep in mind that different brands of frozen fries and air fryer models may require slight adjustments in cooking times, so it's good to experiment a bit to find your perfect timing.
- Cleaning Up: Allow the air fryer to cool down before cleaning. Most parts are dishwasher-safe, making cleanup easier.
