Step 1: Prepare the Oil
Drizzle 2 teaspoons of vegetable or sunflower oil into a heatproof dish or tin that fits comfortably in your air fryer. A cake tin works well, but individual ramekins can be used for single servings. Place the tin or dish in the air fryer and set the temperature to 180°C (356°F). Heat for about 2 minutes. This step ensures the oil is hot enough to prevent sticking and helps achieve a nice texture.
Step 2: Crack the Eggs
Carefully crack 2 large eggs into the warmed tin or dish, making sure not to break the yolks. If using ramekins, you can crack one egg per ramekin for individual servings.
Step 3: Cook the Eggs
Close the air fryer and set it to cook at 180°C (356°F) for 4-8 minutes. The cooking time will depend on how you like your yolks:
- Runny Yolks: Cook for about 4-5 minutes.
- Medium Yolks: Cook for about 6 minutes.
- Firm Yolks: Cook for about 7-8 minutes.
Step 4: Rotate for Even Cooking
If your air fryer has hot spots (common in some models), gently rotate the tin or dish halfway through the cooking time. This will help ensure even cooking and prevent any side from cooking too quickly.
Step 5: Check for Doneness
As the cooking time approaches, keep an eye on the eggs. If you prefer a specific doneness, use a timer or check at the minimum time to avoid overcooking. If you have a digital thermometer, the yolks should reach an internal temperature of about 70°C (160°F) for fully cooked eggs.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Once the eggs are cooked to your liking, carefully remove the dish from the air fryer using oven mitts, as it will be hot. You can season the eggs with salt, pepper, or any other preferred toppings. Enjoy your delicious air-fried eggs on their own or with toast, avocado, or as part of a breakfast bowl!
Additional Tips:
- Experiment with Add-Ins: You can add herbs, cheese, or diced vegetables to the eggs before cooking for added flavor.
- Cleanup: Make sure to clean the dish promptly after use to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Storage: If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a day. Reheat gently in the air fryer or microwave.
