Spicy Crispy Beef Delight Recipe
1. Prepare the Beef:
In a mixing bowl, add the thinly sliced beef strips. Toss them in the cornflour and Chinese five-spice powder until well coated. This will give the beef a nice crispiness when fried.
2. Heat the Oil:
In a wok or large frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it's hot. You can test the oil by dropping in a small piece of beef; it should sizzle immediately.
3. Fry the Beef:
Carefully add the coated beef to the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to scoop out the beef and let it drain on kitchen paper to remove excess oil.
4. Reserve the Oil:
Pour away all but 1 tablespoon of the oil from the pan to keep some flavor for the vegetables.
5. Stir-Fry the Vegetables:
Add the sliced red pepper, half of the sliced red chilli, the white parts of the spring onions, crushed garlic, and ginger to the pan. Stir-fry for about 3 minutes until the vegetables soften. Be careful not to let the garlic and ginger burn, as this can create a bitter taste.
6. Prepare the Sauce:
In a jug, mix together the rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, sweet chilli sauce, tomato ketchup, and 2 tablespoons of water. This will create a flavorful sauce to complement the beef and vegetables.
7. Combine Everything:
Pour the sauce over the stir-fried vegetables in the pan. Let it bubble for 2 minutes to thicken slightly. Then, add the crispy beef back into the pan and toss everything well to ensure the beef is evenly coated.
8. Serve:
Serve the beef over cooked noodles, if desired. For added crunch, include prawn crackers on the side. Garnish with the remaining sliced red chilli and the green parts of the spring onions for a fresh finish.
